Differential Flatness

Differential Flatness is a special property of certain dynamical systems where the states and the control actions can be expressed as pure functions of "flat outputs" and a finite number of its derivatives.

Differentially flat systems are useful in situations where explicit trajectory generation is required. Since the behavior of a flat system is determined by the flat outputs, we can plan trajectories in the flat output space, and then map these back to appropriate control actions.
